P. Cavafy, from Alexandria to New York  <\/em>, directed by Christos Sarris. The production, owned by <strong>Onassis Culture<\/strong> , examines the contemporary relevance of Cavafy through the axes of desire, loss, identity and love. <\/p>\n\n<p>This work, which made its debut on <strong>PBS&#8217;s All Arts<\/strong> platform earlier in April, is an outgrowth of the <strong>Archive of Desire<\/strong> festival hosted in 2023 at the <strong>New Museum in New York<\/strong> . There, the Onassis Foundation, after years of work documenting and showcasing the Cavafy Archive, staged a cultural event with international impact.<\/p>\n\n<p>Through the <em>Visual Cavafy<\/em> series, contemporary creators from around the world artistically confront Cavafy&#8217;s work. <strong>Laurie Anderson, Julianne Moore, Taylor Mac, Evi Kalogiropoulou<\/strong> , and many more artists are inspired by his poetic language and create contemporary cinematic transcriptions of his poems.<\/p>\n\n<p>The films in the <em>Visual Cavafy<\/em> section transform poetry into image and sound, highlighting the timelessness of Cavafy&#8217;s themes: the search for the self, the politics of identity, sensuality and the existential question. The films are directed by <strong>Elena Park<\/strong> and <strong>Christos Sarris<\/strong> , while important names in art and music such as <strong>Rufus Wainwright, Nick Cave, Caroline Shaw, Bob Faust<\/strong> and others participate. <\/p>\n\n<p>The documentary <em>Eternal Desires<\/em> and the short films are now available for free viewing on <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/onassis.org\">onassis.org<\/a><\/strong> and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@OnassisFoundationChannel\/videos\">Onassis Channel on YouTube<\/a><\/strong> , offering a unique immersive experience into one of the most globally recognized Greek poets.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"819\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/diversitynews.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Cavafy_Anniversary_Static_Post_Text_1350x1080px-819x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4108\"\/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This anniversary event featured seven short films and a documentary titled Eternal Desires: The world of C.
