As the Municipality of Thessaloniki states in a Facebook post: “We are sending a strong message against racism, discrimination, fascism and homophobia. By signing the Charter, we confirm our commitment to an inclusive and just city, where diversity becomes strength. More than 300 companies and organizations in Greece have already signed the Charter — Thessaloniki is proudly among them.”

Mayor Stelios Angeloudis emphasized, among other things: “The colorful, diverse and inclusive Thessaloniki could not be absent from the invitation of responsibility and respect addressed by the Diversity Charter. The city’s doors are hermetically closed to racism and discrimination. We are committed to a Thessaloniki that is open, vibrant and fair for all.”

What is the Diversity Charter for Greek businesses, institutions and organizations?

The Diversity Charter is an initiative of the European Commission that aims to promote diversity and equal opportunities in Greek businesses, institutions and organizations. It was established in Greece in 2019 and its aim is to serve as a commitment tool for businesses, institutions and organizations, encouraging the adoption of practices that promote equality and respect for diversity in every work environment.

Since 2004, the Diversity Charter has been gradually promoted in each member state of the European Union. Many countries, such as France, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Belgium, Italy, Spain and Portugal, have implemented and continuously strengthened this initiative. These actions have been supported by leading figures, such as Chancellor Angela Merkel, as well as by institutions, government agencies, ministries and business associations.
