HBO’s hit series, based on the video game of the same name, has garnered rave reviews. Set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a deadly epidemic, the story centers on Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). More than just a survival drama, the series has earned praise for its emotional intensity and queer perspective.

The new season focuses even more on Ellie’s personal journey as she deals with love, loss, and the constant struggle for survival. Audiences will follow the development of her relationship with Dina, played by Isabela Merced (known for “Madame Web”), a plot that also plays a pivotal role in the second part of the game.

During the world premiere, the series’ stars spoke to Out about the importance of LGBTQI+ representation.

Isabela Merced, commenting on her role as Dina, said:
“I think you’ll be completely satisfied with the result. As someone with a fluid identity, I feel like I’m represented through Dina. She’s not a character that’s limited or predetermined. Bi identity doesn’t go away.”

Tati Gabrielle , who joins the cast as Nora, encouraged LGBTQ+ people to continue to be visible and courageous:
“Don’t stop overcoming obstacles. Those who resist progress are not worthy of our attention.”

Danny Ramirez (Manny) spoke about the power the series highlights:
“You will see people drawing from their deepest inner strength, breaking seemingly insurmountable boundaries.”

Spencer Lord , in the role of Owen, emphasized that the series goes beyond the theme of survival:
“It talks about love and the importance of belonging. Find your people and stay with those who lift you up.”

Rutina Wesley returns as Maria and addresses the following message to queer viewers:
“We are present and will continue to be! Representation is essential and is in the queue.”

Finally, Merle Dandridge (Marlene – season 1) sent a touching message:
“Above all, we love you. We see you and we support you. We are by your side.”
