This year, on the sidelines of the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Awards 2025 , the most resounding message came from Europe’s own Diversity Charters , which made history.
For the first time , all Charters from all member states have signed a common Pledge , a declaration calling on the European Union to remain steadfast in the fundamental values of inclusion and equality . This text is much more than a symbolic act: it is a collective call for political support and institutional protection against phenomena of regression and social exclusion that are re-emerging in many corners of Europe.
The Diversity Pledge acts as a beacon in a time when the principles of inclusion are being challenged or exploited. It demands that Europe not take a step back, but instead lead the world once again as a model of social cohesion and diversity.
Great distinction for the Municipalities of Platanias and Komotini
Greece had a special presence this year as well. Two Greek municipalities, Platanias from Crete and Komotini from Thrace, were candidates for the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Awards 2025. An important European distinction that recognizes local authorities that actively promote the integration of all citizens, regardless of origin, gender, age, religion or disability.
The municipalities of Platanias and Komotini demonstrate in practice that equality policy can be a self-governing initiative and not simply an institutional obligation. It can start from the heart of the local community and send the message that An inclusive Greece is not only possible, but already present. Especially in the dark times we are going through. .
Diversity Charter Greece was represented by the president of KEAN , Stavros Milionis .

The European Diversity Month is not a typical awareness campaign. It is an occasion for reflection and action. And this year, through the joint Pledge and the Greek participations in the Inclusion Awards, Europe is showing that Diversity is not a luxury. It is a prerequisite for democracy.
