In a recent interview with Variety, the X-Men star explained that his daughter’s gender identity was never a “big deal” for their family. “Kai has always been Kai,” he said. “The only time I realized it more ‘institutionally’ was when she asked us to change her pronouns. And again, it didn’t feel like a shock. She’s always been so feminine, everything had already been said silently.”

More important than his words was his attitude: an authentic example of acceptance without drama, without exaggeration, without the parents’ “identity crisis.” “My daughter is a fighter,” he declared proudly.

Speaking as a father and not a star, he sent a message to all parents who may be struggling to accept their children’s diversity: “Teenagers are difficult, whether they’re transgender or not. Kai is not a ‘problem’. She’s just… a teenager. And she’s wonderful just the way she is.”

Schreiber even joined her at the Ali Forney Center gala — an organization that supports homeless LGBTQ+ youth — to support a cause that he describes with absolute clarity: “We’re not just talking about visibility. We’re talking about survival. For kids who have been rejected, who have no voice, no support, no family.”

And when asked why he participates, the answer is bluntly honest:
“Because there are people out there who need our help. Simple as that.”
