The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Niki Kerameus , announced the expansion of the subsidized employment program for people with disabilities in the country’s municipalities, adding 1,000 new jobs . This expansion comes in response to the particularly high demand presented by the initial program of 1,000 positions, which have already been filled.
Ms. Kerameus clearly emphasized: “Our fellow citizens with disabilities are absolutely suitable for work. It does not mean that a disability is an obstacle to employment – quite the opposite.” In fact, she recalled the institutionalization of a regulation that now allows pensioners with disabilities to work without losing their pension, strengthening their equality and financial independence.
The Minister referred to the need to integrate vulnerable population groups into the labor market – especially young people, women and people with disabilities. The Ministry’s policy aims to create a more inclusive work environment .
An indicative tool in this direction is the digital platform Jobmatch , which allows any interested person to find a job according to their qualifications and preferences – even with the possibility of a direct interview via video call .
Human resources and unemployment reduction
Unemployment in Greece has fallen to 8.3% – the lowest level in 17 years . This has also resulted in job vacancies appearing, as the pool of available personnel is limited. The government, as the minister noted, is investing in the modernization of employment , with innovations such as:
- “Career Days” in 18 cities in Greece, with the participation of thousands of job seekers
- Similar events abroad (London, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, etc.) that strengthen the connection of the Greek diaspora with the Greek market
- Encouragement for the return of young Greeks abroad , in the context of addressing the demographic problem
Digital tools for equal opportunities
The digital work card , which is already applied to over 1.5 million workers, has proven valuable in recording overtime and preventing undeclared work. With expansion to new sectors (tourism, energy, wholesale, financial services), even more workers will be protected, enhancing fair competition and labor transparency .
Faster pensions – Digitalization with a social dimension
The main pension issuance process has now been reduced from 500 to less than 50 days . At the same time, the digitization of 53 million stamp cards is already at 51% and will be completed by the end of 2025, which will lead to a significant acceleration for supplementary pensions as well.
