“The pilot implementation of the Personal Assistant achieved the milestone of inclusion of 1500 of our fellow citizens with disabilities, who are gaining autonomy in their daily lives. The uninterrupted and assured continuation of the program is our commitment to accessibility, inclusion and equality.” This was emphasized by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michaelidou, upon completing the number of 1500 people with disabilities who found a personal assistant.
The priority of implementing the “Personal Assistant for People with Disabilities” program is absolute for the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, as is the goal of their full integration into Greek society.
In this context, Domna Michaelidou underlined its successful course. “The Personal Assistant program had achieved another milestone, just since its inception: It was the first from the Greek side, for which a milestone of the Recovery and Resilience Fund timeline was achieved, in March 2022.
Through the fulfillment of the second milestone of 1500 people with disabilities, and even earlier than the deadline, significant progress is being made that confirms the effectiveness of the welfare state.”
The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family assured that the universal implementation of the Personal Assistant program and the uninterrupted provision of the service between the pilot and universal program is the guarantee that the Government gives to people with disabilities and their families: “We are working towards a comprehensive policy for the independent living of our fellow citizens with disabilities. The State must promote the upgrading of the quality of life of people with disabilities, their independent living and their integration into every aspect of social and professional activity, facing and overcoming obstacles and breaking down discrimination and exclusion.”
