Under the slogan “Together for Health. Stand with Science,” which is this year’s message for World Health Day, the Municipality of Agios Dimitrios, through its Department of Health and Welfare, is organizing a packed two-day program of events on April 6 and 7, 2026.

This initiative is being held in observance of World Health Day and aims to raise awareness, promote prevention, and improve the physical and mental health of all citizens, regardless of age, by providing high-quality services.

In his message, the Mayor of Agios Dimitrios, Stelios Mamalakis, emphasizes that the municipal government has, from the very beginning, made the provision of quality health services to our fellow citizens a top priority. He notes that safeguarding and promoting health is not only an individual responsibility but also a key priority of the State and Local Government, calling on all residents to actively participate in these initiatives and stay informed about issues affecting their quality of life.

For his part, the Deputy Mayor for Social Policy and Vulnerable Groups, Athanasios Babanas, emphasizes that this year’s campaign highlights significant scientific achievements and the international cooperation required to translate scientific findings into action. He notes that the program has been designed to offer substantial benefits in the areas of physical and mental health.

The program begins on Monday, April 6, at the New Indoor Gymnasium of Agios Vasilios with an open therapeutic exercise class led by specialized physical therapists to help prevent musculoskeletal problems.

Next, at the 4th KAPI (10 Thessalias Street), the “Nestor” Psychogeriatric Society will present programs on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

On Tuesday, April 7, the activities will move to the Municipal Clinics (also at 10 Thessalias Street), where comprehensive gynecological examinations will be conducted, as well as a series of preventive screenings at City Hall, such as hearing tests, cognitive function tests for individuals over 60, blood sugar, blood pressure, and bone density measurements, as well as information from a podiatrist on foot care.

It is important to note that for many of the preventive screenings, such as the Pap test and the dementia screening, a scheduled appointment is required; please call 210 9755163 or 210 9701496.

The Municipality of Agios Dimitrios remains steadfastly committed to its citizens, promoting the importance of early disease detection and the protection of public health!
