“Practical Support: €6.5 Million for Facilities for People with Disabilities and an Inclusive Society”

Nikos Hardalias sent a clear message in favor of equality, care, and meaningful support for those who need it most, through his recent visits to social solidarity facilities in Attica.

At a time that highlights the value of solidarity, such as Easter, the Regional Governor emphasized that supporting vulnerable social groups is not merely a political choice, but a moral obligation that concerns society as a whole.

Support through actions, not just words

The Region of Attica currently funds 23 Day Care and Day Support Centers for People with Disabilities (PWD) through the Attica Regional Program 2021-2027, with a total annual budget of 6.5 million euros. Through these facilities, 617 of our fellow citizens receive daily care, support, and opportunities for a more independent and dignified life.

Where care becomes action

Key stops on the visits were the Spastic Protection Society “Open Door” in Argyroupoli and the “Flame” Association in Goudi.

At “Porta Aνοιχτή,” an organization with a long-standing presence since 1972, free rehabilitation and support services are provided to children, adolescents, and adults with cerebral palsy. It is a place where difference is not viewed as a limitation, but as part of human diversity that deserves care, respect, and equal opportunities.

Similarly, “Flame” serves as a pillar of support for children with cancer and their families, offering not only practical assistance but also psychological support. There, the concept of inclusion takes on a deeper meaning, through the daily struggle for dignity and hope.

A society for all

In his remarks, Mr. Hardalias emphasized that society becomes more just when it leaves no one behind. Strengthening structures that support people with disabilities and their families is not just about welfare—it is about every person’s right to live with dignity, acceptance, and equal opportunities.

The message is clear: inclusion is not an abstract concept, but a daily practice. And it is built through policies, initiatives, and people who choose to stand by those who truly need it.
