Deputy Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Elena Rapti signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Greek Red Cross, represented by its President, Antonis Avgerinos, marking the launch of a significant social care initiative: the “Neighborhood Nannies” program.
This partnership is not limited to simply providing childcare services, but essentially extends to promoting equality and inclusion. Through free training for prospective caregivers in First Aid for infants and toddlers, it ensures that every family—regardless of social or economic background—has access to high-quality and safe care services.
The contribution of the Hellenic Red Cross, with its scientific credibility and many years of experience throughout the country, reinforces the people-centered nature of the initiative, emphasizing not only the safety of children but also the empowerment of those who care for them.
As part of the signing ceremony, a discussion was held on the program’s progress and prospects, with the shared goal of expanding initiatives that promote social cohesion and the equal participation of all.
Deputy Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Elena Rapti stated: “Our collaboration with the Greek Red Cross substantially enhances the safety and quality of the care services provided to families. Through the ‘Neighborhood Nannies’ program, we are actively supporting parents, and especially new mothers, by enabling them to balance their family and professional lives. We continue to consistently implement policies that respond to the real needs of society, with a focus on people.”
For his part, the President of the Hellenic Red Cross, Antonios Avgerinos, stated:
“For the Hellenic Red Cross, caring for human life and strengthening social cohesion are fundamental values. Through our collaboration on the “Neighborhood Nannies” program, we ensure that childcare professionals acquire critical first aid skills, contributing to a safer and more supportive environment for every child and every family. “Education is a source of strength and a tool for inclusion for everyone.”
The “Neighborhood Nannies” initiative thus emerges as a substantial step toward a society where care, safety, and equality are rights for all—strengthening diversity and inclusion in everyday life through concrete action.
