The proud return of “Serres”: A series-hymn to inclusion and diversity

3 Min Read

The series “Serres” by Giorgos Kapoutzidis returns with a second season that already from its first teaser sends a clear, proud message: love has no labels .

Giorgos Kapoutzidis, a creator who has for years been identified with the defense of diversity, does not just stop at words. Through his actions, his public stance and his work, he is one of the most emblematic voices for LGBTQI+ visibility in Greece. “Serres” , perhaps his most personal television creation, returns to continue this dialogue – this time even bolder, more mature and with more… pride.

A teaser full of meaning

In the first teaser for the second season, we see Odysseus – now played by Giorgos Zygouris – pondering whether to place a small Pride flag on the counter of the gay café he is opening in Serres. He says with reflection: “It is suicidal to characterize a shop as gay in the Greek countryside. Our marketing has to be very discreet.”

And then, the series does what it always does best: subverts stereotypes. A huge Pride flag covers the storefront, while Aunt Stamatina’s distinctive voice is heard from a duduka: “Come to the first gay cafe in Serres!”

The success continues – and inspires

The first season of the series was a huge success, reaching the top of the Greek Netflix within just 48 hours of its release. In the second season, the series promises even more emotions, new characters, stories of love and acceptance, and a continuous dialogue about the need to deconstruct the labels surrounding the word “relationship” .

The series’ collaboration with the global Netflix platform, combined with its television presence on ANT1 , allows this message to travel beyond Greek borders – to every person who needs to hear that it’s okay to be yourself .

Giorgos Kapoutzidis: The artist who “speaks” with actions

More than a screenwriter or an actor, Giorgos Kapoutzidis is a symbol of honesty, courage and inclusion . He is not afraid to expose himself, to confront or to assert himself – both publicly and through his work. With “Serres” , he continues to move us, to inspire us and – most importantly – to remind us that diversity is not a problem, it is an asset .
