Beloved actress, activist, and former New York City mayoral candidate Cynthia Nixon is set to officiate one of the world’s largest wedding and vow renewal ceremonies for women during St. Petersburg Pride in Florida, which will take place next February.
Bride Pride, described as «the world’s largest wedding and vow renewal ceremony for women," aims to bring together hundreds of female couples in a powerful celebration of love, equality, and visibility. For the occasion, Cynthia Nixon will temporarily step away from her iconic role as Miranda in Sex and the City to serve as the event’s officiant, taking on the role of «Priestess for a Day."
«Imagine standing alongside hundreds of women, all declaring their eternal love for one another at the same time beneath the beautiful skies of sunny St. Pete in February. It’s big. It’s bold. It’s an unforgettable moment," reads the event’s invitation to couples.
Bride Pride originated in Provincetown, Massachusetts, a town long regarded as a welcoming haven for the LGBTQ+ community on Cape Cod. It began when one female couple decided to renew their wedding vows during the town’s annual Women’s Week celebrations. As the picturesque seaside destination was already filled with women couples attending the festivities, they invited others to join them in reaffirming their love. Dozens accepted the invitation, and what started as a simple gesture soon evolved into a cherished tradition.
The event’s official website invites participants with the following message: «Get legally married or renew your vows of love with acclaimed actress and LGBTQ+ activist Cynthia Nixon, who will become your «Priestess for a Day.'"
Beyond its symbolic significance, organizers hope the ceremony will also set a new world record for participation. As they enthusiastically state: «Oh, and if we reach 100 couples? Congratulations. You didn’t just get married—you made history. Welcome to the Guinness World Records."
