A new survey from the Hologic Global Women’s Health Index has revealed which European countries report the highest levels of anger among women, based on responses from more than 76,000 women and girls worldwide.
The latest data, collected in February 2024 and published this week, suggest that levels of anger among women in the United Kingdom have risen sharply. British women were 47% more likely to report feeling angry compared with the previous year. Across Europe as a whole, however, anger levels remained broadly stable.
The report is based on a snapshot of national sentiment, with participants asked whether they had experienced specific emotions “during most of the previous day.”
In the United Kingdom, 22% of women said they had felt angry, placing the country sixth among the 37 European nations included in the analysis.
Greek Women Among Europe’s Most Angry
According to The Times, the highest levels of reported anger were recorded in Malta, where 26% of women said they felt angry. Greece ranked second at 25%, followed by the Czech Republic and Albania at 23%, and Spain at 22%.
The United Kingdom ranked above Ireland, where 18% of women reported feeling angry, and above Germany, France, and Switzerland, all at 17%. The Netherlands recorded 12%, while Belgium stood at 9%.
At the bottom of the European ranking were Kosovo and Croatia, where only around 8% of women reported feeling angry.
Women’s Health a Source of Anger and Anxiety
Few experiences test people’s patience more than waiting for medical care. A separate Hologic survey conducted last month found that nearly 70% of women had faced delays in seeking healthcare through the NHS during the previous five years. Two in five respondents said that difficulties accessing healthcare had left them feeling frustrated or anxious.
These findings come amid a broader decline in women’s physical health worldwide. Nearly one in four women surveyed globally reported that health problems had disrupted their daily lives.
Taiwan ranked first globally for women’s health outcomes, followed by Latvia, Japan, Vietnam, and Poland. Singapore, Germany, and Austria also featured among the top-performing countries.
